People and organisations add capabilities to their toolbox. However, if you don't consider the impact of beliefs, even the best skill added fails.
A few years ago, I worked with a brilliant manager at a multinational company.
She had every capability you could ask for. Certified. Experienced. Talented. Her company invested heavily in her training.
And yet, she kept hitting the same wall.
No promotion. No recognition. No joy in her work.
Everyone was frustrated, from her downline to her supervisor.
And of course, she felt frustrated to the max.
When we talked, it quickly became clear why.
She carried a belief deep down: “If I fail, I’ll let everyone down.”
So every presentation felt like life or death.
Every mistake was seen as a personal catastrophe.
Not consciously, of course, but it ran her life.
She couldn’t experiment, couldn’t delegate, couldn’t breathe.
The company thought she needed more skills. She didn’t.
She needed to shift the belief that held her hostage.
And when we did, everything changed.
The skills were already there, but now, they could shine - unleashed.
👉 This is why I say: training builds capability, but beliefs determine whether that capability ever sees the light of day.
