MANAGING RESISTANCE AS A LEADER

How do you manage resistance as a leader? Read this post to get some ideas

People argue, disagree, rebel, sabotage, and resist, even the best ideas or proposals.

That’s normal and we all did this before, right?

And it is okay if it happens once in a while.

But what to do if this is a regular occurrence?

If you, as a person, have to deal with someone whom you just can’t stand. Or that there is a constant pushback of responsibility and accountability.

And runs a “it’s not my fault” attitude? Pushes the buck around?

Worse, if this does not happen amongst individuals, but even departments?

It’s painful. And it hurts not only the company but the affected individuals inside the company as well.

That’s what we dealt with last week in our training in Sabah.

I am not posting pictures here for confidentiality reasons, but the training was exhausting, exciting, and exhilarating.

Fun, because of the intensity of the learning, the insights that NLP can provide into such scenarios, and ways to overcome it as well.

Because even resistance and sabotage are something that starts at the level of the mind, is a program running, and a perception of another person that does not reflect reality.

Let me give you an example, that, hopefully, makes you think.

Step 1:
Think of a person that you don’t like. Describe that person in all his or her characteristics.

Step 2:
Check, how much you actually know about that person. You most likely know that person only in one context. If you would meet that person in another context, could you like him or her?

Step 3: Is there anyone whom you know who actually likes that person?

==> I dare to tell you the following.

The more you know about a person, the harder it is to dislike the person.
If there is anyone who likes the person in the same context that you dislike the person, your dislike is more about you than the person. It is a reflection of your own inner world. And the more you dislike someone…. Nah, I don’t want to go there.

But do this little exercise and let me know how it goes.
